The new trailer for the upcoming indie comedy Save Yourselves! highlights a New York City couple who turn off their phones and miss an alien invasion. The film comes at time when people are arguably more dependent than ever on the internet. With the COVID-19 pandemic still taking its toll on people’s ability to publicly socialize and more or less live lifestyles that were once considered normal, the internet has arguably been both a blessing and a curse.
On one hand, during the lockdowns that affected nations around the world, being able to watch movies, shop, stay in touch with family and friends and play games online were all invaluable additions to being forced to stay home. However, on the other hand, too much social media has at times caused problems for many, resulting in all sorts of difficult situations. The ideal scenario is to balance online time with real world activities, but this can often be more far more challenging for some than it sounds. Very few films to date have taken on the subject of just how big a part the internet is to our day-to-day lives, and for the reason, Save Yourselves! looks like a timely watch.
The sci-fi comedy is set for an October release, though the exact date is not specified in the new trailer from the official Bleeker Street YouTube account. The film stars John Reynolds (Stranger Things) and Sunita Mani (GLOW) as a NYC couple who decide they’ve had enough internet and make the decision to take a one week break from it all. After a friend lends them a cabin, they gain a chance to really get back to nature, but as strange things begin to happen, it becomes imperative to once again check their messages. What they learn is that bizarre extra-terrestrial “poofs” have invaded. Check out the hilarious trailer for Save Yourselves! below:
