Yesterday, what happened between Fatimah and I really hurt me but I just had to swallow it down my throat for the sake of the love I had for her. And today, just as Professor Marwan came into the hall and began warning us (the final year students) again about the effect of not finishing our school project in time, her text message popped up asking us to meet in Postgraduate Hall. And without wasting much time, I took an excuse from Professor Marwan and thus headed there as fast as I could. You should have seen how swiftly I was walking.

As soon as I stepped into the hall and began searching for Fatimah, she waved at me. She was in one of the middle roles and had secured a place for me. The hall wasn’t frequently used since the postgraduate students we had weren’t many. Hence, lovers turned it to a resting place. You could see many students across the hall with their partners… eating, gisting, kissing etc. Some girls could even be seen sitting on their boyfriends’ laps. Something Fatimah would never do, hmm. Well, I wouldn’t even subscribe to do that too because it might ignite the old me in me and something might just end up happening.

“Hey” I huffed as soon as I walked over to her. She was beautiful, like always. Though today she chose to wear hijab, perhaps in order not to make me go crazy like yesterday.

“Morning”

“Morning, have a seat” She said taking off her bag from the seat she secured for me by her left. We were the only ones in our role though, but she did that to prevent other guys from sitting close to her while she awaits me. There was also her laptop in the other seat. Yes, the one by her right hand side. I loved her style.

“Thank you” I said as I gently sat in the seat.

“You are welcome” She said and continued. “How are you? Still angry with me, right?”

“Maybe” I muttered.

“Okey,” She sighed and brought something from her bag. “As an apology, I bought you this. It’s a wristwatch” She handed it to me.

“Hmm” I gulped removing it from its box. “Like seriously?” I said in excitement. The wristwatch was the latest product of Vinca, it wasn’t a cheap wristwatch. The last time I checked its price, it was sold at N256,000.

“You like it?” She asked smiling.

“What do you mean by I like it? I love it, jare!” I said scrutinizing it one more time. “Thanks”

“You are welcome” She huffed and continued. “Let me wear it for you, it matches your outfit”

“Alright, my love” I handed it over to her. Thus, she began wearing it for me while I stare at her with lot of thoughts pacing my mind. She was beautiful, and had everything that I needed in a woman. So tell me, wasn’t I the luckiest man on earth? Well, no! I wasn’t the luckiest man… yet until I get married to her and start building a family with her…

“That is it, all set!” She pulled me out of my trance. “So, am I now forgiven?” She asked.

“Hmm, yes but…” I hesitated and continued. “Don’t repeat what you did to me yesterday”

“I know it hurts, I am so sorry” She uttered staring at me. “But I won’t promise you that it won’t happen again because as a lady, I am responsible for myself. I love you, and I want you to be my husband. The only thing I don’t like is the way you used to behave sometimes when we are together. I know you have problem in controlling yourself, and that’s why I am trying my best to help you out. The way you used to touch me, if I should keep quiet then you will continue to be doing that. We both know it is forbidden in Islam and can lead to lot of things. Also, I am so sorry for not escorting you to the old train station. I was just scared something bad might happen there because the way you were looking at me, I really didn’t understand. That was why I decided to…” She was saying when I cut in.

“It’s okey, I just don’t know why sometimes I can’t control myself around you” I confessed.

“Which is why you need to stop getting angry whenever I make my own decision, ok? You should know that I love you and all I want is the best for you and me” She huffed and continued. “So, please try and hold on more steady. How many years remaining? In Shaa Allah we would get married in the nearer future and you would have me as much as you desire. You just need to be patient, ok?”

“Alright…” I said turning my hand to have a clear view of the wristwatch she gave to me. “This will always be in my wrist, Fatimah”

“And whenever I did not see it, what should I do to you?” She asked with a wrinkled brow.

“You should kiss me” I joked.

“Mtsww, you ain’t serious” She rolled her eyes as she stood to her feet. “Lemme pack and go”

“Oh come on, baby. I was only joking” I said and thus forgetfully landed my hand on hers. “Subhanallah!” I quickly took it off the moment I realized it. “I am so sorry please”

“It is fine, as long as it is a mistake” She said and then sat in her seat again. “But, try not repeating that in the name of mistaking fa!”

“Aye, boss lady!” I said staring at her with a smile. “I love you, Fatimah Aliyu Bulama…”

“Must you mention my full name?” She asked.

“Yes, it reminds me of the battles ahead of us” I huffed and continued. “Our family wahala”

“We will cross that bridge if we reach it” She uttered and then picked her laptop from the other seat and turned it on. “Munir is getting married soon, I would like you to chose some styles here for me. The ones you chose are the ones I will sew In Shaa Allah. So, chose wisely”

“Munir is getting what?” I queried.

“Married!” She recapitulated.
