Keeper of the Lost Cities Movie in the Works at Warner Bros.

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has officially acquired the rights to the film adaptation of Keeper of the Lost Cities, based on Shannon Messenger’s bestselling coming-of-age fantasy book series. The film rights were originally set up at Disney over three years ago, with Oscar winner Ben Affleck previously attached to direct the adaptation.

The upcoming movie will be produced by Emma Watts (Alita: Battle Angel), with Messenger also serving as an executive producer. At the moment, there is still no director or writer attached to the Warner Bros. adaptation yet.

What is Keeper of the Lost Cities about?

Keeper of the Lost Cities was first published in 2012. Following its success, Messenger was able to released ten more sequel novels, including the upcoming installment titled Unraveled which debuts on November 12. It follows the story of a young girl with telepathic abilities, who discovers that she’s actually an elf living in the human world.

The official novel synopsis reads: “Twelve-year-old Sophie has never quite fit into her life. She’s skipped multiple grades and doesn’t really connect with the older kids at school, but she’s not comfortable with her family, either. The reason? Sophie’s a Telepath, someone who can read minds. No one knows her secret—at least, that’s what she thinks…But the day Sophie meets Fitz, a mysterious (and adorable) boy, she learns she’s not alone. He’s a Telepath too, and it turns out the reason she has never felt at home is that, well…she isn’t.
