Avatar 2 set photo reveals a first look at the humans' science lab on Pandora. To the delight of Avatar fans everywhere, James Cameron is back at work on his planned sequels after a lengthy delay brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, work is going so well that recently Cameron was able to reveal he has finished shooting live-action on Avatar 2 and is well into filming on Avatar 3.

Cameron of course has promised not two but four Avatar sequels, though box office returns on the first two may very well determine whether the second two ever make it to screens. The first of the four follow-ups, Avatar 2, returns audiences to the moon Pandora where the conflict between greedy humans and the nature-loving Na’vi continues, with the children of Avatar lead characters Jake Sully and Neytiri getting caught up in the battle. It was revealed quite awhile ago that the second Avatar film will introduce a new underwater kingdom on Pandora, and indeed there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes material released teasing this undersea world, including glimpses of cast members Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver doing tank work for Cameron (who of course loves his water-set action movies, as evidenced by The Abyss and Titanic).

The latest reveal from behind-the-scenes on Avatar 2 doesn’t feature any cool looking boats or glimpses of actors frolicking in tanks, but instead features a sleek, futuristic interior (of a set previously teased in images posted to social media). See the image in the space below (as posted on Instagram by producer Jon Landau):

RDA or Resources Development Administration is of course the innocuous sounding name of the decidedly non-innocuous entity responsible for exploiting the natural resources of Pandora, particularly the precious (and generically named) mineral unobtanium. The image above, of a facility called Bridgehead, shows that the RDA is indeed still hard at work on Pandora trying to squeeze every last ounce of value out of their operations there. Such facilities as these were of course used in the first Avatar to help with the company's devious plan to infiltrate the Na'vi via the use of avatars driven by soldiers like Jake Sully (a plan that obviously backfired as Sully came to sympathize with the very people he was attempting to bring down). The first Avatar obviously ended with the defeat of the human invaders, but clearly one defeat wouldn’t be enough to dissuade as greedy and evil a company as the RDA from continuing their operations, so it's a fair bet some very bad things will come out of the facility teased above.

Like all the previous behind-the-scenes reveals from the set of the Avatar sequels, the new image gives nothing much away in terms of plot, but does serve to tease Cameron’s vision for the film while providing more proof of just how detailed the film’s settings are. It will certainly be fascinating to see how all these meticulously crafted and technologically amazing elements come together when Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are finally released.
