Geralt & Ciri Go To Witcher Training Castle In Season 2 Synopsis

It's official: Geralt and Ciri are heading to Kaer Morhen in The Witcher season 2, per the official synopsis. Last year, Netflix released its response to Game of Thrones with the first season of The Witcher. Based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and their subsequent video games, The Witcher follows monster hunter Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) as he traverses the Continent. Of course, Geralt isn't the only protagonist in this story, as it also follows sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allen) of Cintra. Even before season 1 premiered, Netflix renewed The Witcher for season 2, which is in production now.

The Witcher season 1 was criticized for its confusing timelines, as each of the three main characters had their own stories that didn't always line up. However, season 2 promises to be a bit more linear, particularly since the first season concluded with an event fans had long waited to see: Geralt and Ciri meeting. As Ciri is Geralt's "child of surprise," their destinies are intertwined, and Geralt is poised to serve as Ciri's father figure going into The Witcher season 2.

Fans have a better idea of what to expect from Geralt and Ciri's season 2 story thanks to the official synopsis. Many assumed Geralt would take Ciri to Kaer Morhen, the legendary witcher training castle, and that theory has now been proven correct. One thing the synopsis doesn't do, however, is reveal any hints about Yennefer's fate. Read on to see what The Witcher has in store:

“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/9f47ba2a9d742770e51cb17127226cc5.jpg

This comes on the heels of the first official look of Geralt in season 2 being revealed, which features some new armor for the taciturn hunter. With Geralt and Ciri finally being united, The Witcher can avoid some of those early criticisms about deviating from the source material. Already, there's a great deal of excitement surrounding their time at Kaer Morhen, which hasn't yet been seen in the Witcher television show. Ciri technically cannot become a witcher herself, but it is certain that she'll be doing some rigorous training during her time at the famed castle.

Much like countless productions this year, filming on The Witcher season 2 suffered a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, however, production resumed in August, and so far it seems to be progressing as planned. This means The Witcher season 2 could premiere in the latter half of 2021, similar to how the first episodes dropped in December 2019. Two years is quite the wait between seasons, but it sounds like it will definitely be worth it.
