Fans In The UK Will Have To Pay 14.95 Pounds To Watch Chelsea’s Next PL Game

The Premier League have taken to introduce pay per view matches from next weekend. Five games from every weekend will be available on Sky Sports or BT Box Office at a cost of 14.95 pounds per match.

The bonus games on Sky Sports, BT, Amazon and BBC have come to an end. From the next matchday, half the matches will be on Sky or BT, while the rest will be on PPV.

The controversial move has come about as clubs look to make up for lost matchday revenue as a result of fans being locked out of stadia. Each non-televised game (five per matchday) will cost 14.95 pounds to watch.

The five matches affected on October 17th are: Chelsea v Southampton, Newcastle v Man Utd, Leicester v Aston Villa, Sheffield United v Fulham and West Brom v Burnley.

“The Premier League has worked closely with Sky Sports and BT Sport to provide this arrangement and is grateful for their support. The agreement will be regularly reviewed in consultation with clubs and in line with any decisions made by Government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums. Football is not the same without supporters at matches.

The Premier League and our clubs remain committed to the safe return of fans as soon as possible. An updated broadcast list of matches will be announced later today.” the Premier League announced.

Asking fans to pay extra money in these hard times has not gone down well with many and Gary Neville of ‘Sky Sports’ was one to express his anger. “This is a really bad move by the Premier League to charge 14.95 pounds for single matches that have been shown free for 6 months!”, he wrote.

It remains to be seen how many supporters decide to pay the money for these games and whether season ticket holders are granted free access to the fixtures.
